AzRA is so well run. Through and through the organization flows smoothly. The guides are second to none. Thank you for another amazing journey.

This trip was unbelievable. The scenery and geology is breathtaking. The guides and equipment were excellent. The side canyon hiking trips fun and informational. The river and running the rapids a blast. The food was terrific and the professional, yet fun loving, support from the guides excellent. The knowledge of the canyon history, geology, and river very interesting. If I were to pick one single highlight though it would be swimming a rapid, voluntarily of course as we did not flip any rafts on our trip. I do a fair amount of river rafting in Alaska, but have never swam a cold water rapid of the magnitude I did on this trip. It was exhilarating, a little scary, and a valuable experience.

The guides exceeded my expectations. Because the river was running faster than usual, Matt took advantage of the extra time and created a wonderful hiking itinerary. He was very accurate in describing the hikes so that I could make sound choices. He always provided options so everyone could pick a hike to meet their desires/abilities. I found his "public service announcements" at night very useful. Matt also checked with those of us who had been on the river before about things we would like to do that we have not before. This lead to us seeing some golden oldies and being introduced to new hikes/side canyons.

Top of the line and cream of the crop. That is one thing that AzRA has over all the other companies -- the quality and character of the guides.

I can't choose just one highlight. I had the good fortune to have some amazing journeys and experiences in my life. As much as I loved each of those, most I wouldn't do again to give me time to do something else. This trip, however, is 1 of 2 that I would repeat. The combination of the incredible Canyon and the incredible people who self-select into this type of trip made for a rare treasure. This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I'm sure that even repeating it would yield something entirely new and equally memorable.

As a family, we have never even camped before, so I was a little worried about whether the family would take to it!!! It didn't take long to realize that the trip was going to be a success. The boulder climbing, rock jumping, river rapid swimming, guitar playing were spectacular. We ate better than we do at home. The Canyon has forever changed us and will never be forgotten. Thank you AZRA and guides.

My family of 5 absolutely loved the trip. Perhaps the best way to explain is to copy my 14 year old daughter’s post on her facebook page she posted the night we came off the river: “In the last 8 days I: met the most amazing people who I will never forget, swam a rapid, had lightning as my 4th of July fireworks, broke a world record, took a spin in the tumbler, found three rattlesnakes, and got used to showering in 50 degree river water. In other words, in the last 8 days, I have had the most incredible time of my entire life.”

This trip was one of the best experiences of my life. From the moment we struck out on Bright Angel until we checked in to the Radisson, I felt cared for, confident that my needs had been thought of and that I was receiving the necessary instruction to stay safe while having an extraordinary experience. I think there are river people (they love the rapids best) and rock people (they love the canyons more). While Lava Falls blew my mind, I am definitely a rock person - I need to see what lies beyond the river’s edge. The opportunity to hike and explore the slot canyons, creeks and crevices made my trip and the diversity of the landscape blew my mind. I know with a less active crew and group of guests I would not have seen as much as I did. I'm thankful to have been part of such a wonderful group. Coming home was hard. I can't wait to get back to Grand Canyon.

Grand Canyon Stories Specialty Trip

AZRA has amazing guides. I think this is the single most important factor in choosing a great rafting trip!

I have traveled all over the US and Europe. I have never been on a trip that I could not describe to my friends and family until now. All I can tell them is you have to do this. I am still at a loss to describe it to you. The Little Colorado might be the most beautiful place I have ever been. Havasu might be the most fun. The Tumbler rules!

The guides are why I have rafted with AzRA four times. They make the experience very special and amazing. They share their deep rooted love and awe of the canyon and the river with all of us. They are diverse in their knowledge, education and experience and are an amazing group of people. I feel that we are in skilled, professional hands and that the guides will do all they can to insure that everyone is safe and has a great time.

For me the highlight was finding I could do things I hadn't done before (climbed on boulders, up to a waterfall, surviving without showers, etc). The beauty of the canyon and the sights were a definite highlight.

I had never slept out under the stars before and loved the experience. It is a very other-worldly experience and is hard to explain. It was a treat to be away from phones, computers, and 24/7 news.

It is amazing that 7 people can be on duty 24/7 and never show a crack. A small example: The guides were in their pre-dinner huddle, talking about the day. I slipped into the river to cool off, and Somer spotted me out of the corner of her eye. She let me know that the current was too swift and to stay close to shore. Situational awareness....100% 24/7. This trip was the very best trip of my life (and this is coming from a person who has only been camping a few times in her life!). Most vacations balance work issues, stress, etc. For the first time, I was actually able to relax. This trip truly rejuvenated me and I will definitely be back. The highlight of my trip was the people: guides and group members.

Fantastic trip from beginning to end! This trip stretched me way out of my comfort zone, which was a good thing. The highlight of my trip was when we camped on a huge beautiful beach. We had delicious steaks and carrot cake. It was a clear night and my husband and I slept outside under the stars. Don't think I'll ever have an experience like that again. Amazing!

The highlight? Wow, hard question. There was SO much! I didn't go on this trip for the whitewater but definitely fell in love with paddling through rapids! The highlight may have been the spell that the canyon and her river cast on me, on us all... to lose track of the time of day, the day of the week, and listen again to our own rhythms and those of our surroundings... to escape (for not long enough) the insanity of the civilized world and our lives of being overly busy and overly responsible. How healing this is!! Then again, the good hard belly laughs on a daily basis were right up there, too, and letting out our silly sides.

I was quite apprehensive about the trip, never having done anything quite like this before, and not knowing what to expect. Would I have the right equipment, and would I be fit enough - especially for the hike out at the end of the week? In fact, the preparation notes were very helpful, and I had pretty much everything that I needed. I was able to buy one or 2 things that were lacking after Annie's briefing. The whole trip was very well organized, and Howie did a great job briefing us at the beginning of the day and choosing campsites in time for us to dry off before it got dark! I found the trip exciting when on the water - especially the paddling with Faye's excellent direction, and I enjoyed the hikes that took us deeper into that amazing landscape. I was astonished and touched that I received so many good wishes - and a cake with candles! - on my birthday and will not forget the hilarious games that ended the day. A BIG thank you to all concerned for such a great trip.
